HOW IT WORKS

Stillpoint is an educational space for people from all walks of life. We offer a platform for experienced teachers and those who would like help developing their ideas.

There are three ways to work with Stillpoint:

  1. Rent Stillpoint, to bring a program that you are ready to offer. Click here for rates.

  2. Collaborate with Stillpoint, for an idea that you have but are not exactly sure how to move forward with. Submit your idea so we can contact you to discuss.

  3. Sponsor a program, or series of programs, that Stillpoint would produce. Click here to learn more.

The fixed costs to operate our facility are shared with the individuals and nonprofit organizations that use Stillpoint.

Our goal is that all of our programs will be affordable for everyone regardless of their individual means. To that end, all programs must either offer pay-what-you-can ticketing, scholarship seats, or some other adjustment to further that goal.

If this model presents a barrier to you or your organization, please contact us. We believe that everyone has something to offer, and we may be willing to work with you to help produce your program.

Conversely, if your program is wildly successful, we trust that you or your organization will make a donation to Stillpoint, helping us continue to make this space available for others.

RENT THE SPACE

The following rates are for individuals and Island nonprofit organizations. All others inquiring, please contact us.

RULES FOR USAGE

  • The maximum capacity of the barn is 99 people (including staff and volunteers).

  • This is a quiet campus. All Stillpoint partners must abide by all West Tisbury noise bylaws.

  • All programs must be educational.

  • There can be no amplified sound outside of the building, except as may be required to comply with ADA requirements. The Martha’s Vineyard Commission has set the following decibel limit: “Amplified sound, as measured at any property boundary, shall not exceed 5 dB(A) above ambient sound as measured at the same time.”

  • Smaller programs (35–60 people) require a $250 security and cleaning deposit; for larger programs (61–99 people), this will be $500. The deposit will be refunded once the building is clean and it is determined that nothing was damaged.

  • We encourage a cell-phone-free environment. If you must have your phone with you, it (and all other phones brought into the barn) should be on silent.

  • No smoking is allowed on the premises, indoors or out.

  • The sale of alcohol is prohibited. At events where alcohol is served, excessive drinking will not be allowed.

  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to obtain any permits required by the Town of West Tisbury.

  • No pets are allowed inside the barn. Outside, all pets must be on a leash.

  • Use of the barn’s audiovisual equipment must be arranged in advance.

Insurance
Organizations wishing to rent Stillpoint to produce their own programs must secure their own general liability insurance and provide a certificate of insurance. There are places online that sell inexpensive one-day insurance policies (theeventhelper.com, specialeventinsurance.com, etc.).

Accessibility
Stillpoint is ADA-compliant. One of its three restrooms is handicapped-and wheelchair-accessible.

Tents
Small tents are allowed but must be approved by Stillpoint, before an event. Cook or kitchen tents are permitted for caterers.

Cleaning Checklist
Hourly use of the space includes 30 additional minutes before and 30 additional minutes after, for setup and cleanup. Half-day use includes one additional hour for setup and one additional hour for cleanup. Full-day use includes two additional hours for setup, and two for cleanup.

The space, inside and outside, must be kept clean. Stillpoint provides brooms, mops, a vacuum cleaner, and other cleaning supplies.

Each renter is responsible for removing their own trash.

All tables and chairs are to be wiped clean and neatly stacked. Please do not drag them across the floor.

At Stillpoint, we are committed to fostering a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone. Our goal is to create a space where all can contribute, learn, and grow in a spirit of cooperation. Therefore, we ask all participants to uphold the following standards of behavior in order to maintain a sense of shared community.

Standards Policy
We ask that participants treat all colleagues, partners, and community members with respect and kindness, and be considerate of differing viewpoints, experiences, and backgrounds. We encourage you to approach one another’s ideas with curiosity and openness. Please always maintain respectful dialogue, even when disagreements arise, and work to seek common ground and solutions that benefit everyone.

We celebrate diversity and strive to be inclusive of all individuals, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, religion, or background. To this end, we ask you to be conscious of language, actions, and behaviors that may unintentionally exclude or marginalize others.

Conflict and disagreement may arise and can be productive. All parties shall aim to listen and seek understanding before responding further. Dialogue intended towards resolution and mutual respect will be encouraged. If this is not possible, and the conflict escalates, all parties will be asked to leave until they can engage in conversation respectfully.

Supporting one another with curiosity, cooperation, and respect will help maintain a positive and uplifting environment for everyone. This intention strengthens Stillpoint and allows for it to thrive as a valuable community resource.
